It works by analyzing new passwords in real-time for strength and predictability, specifically checking for segmented personal data (like names or birthdates). By using Construal Level Theory, it provides dynamic feedback to encourage secure habits and balance the trade-off between password security and usability.

Yes, FortiPass is designed with a strong focus on privacy. Unlike cloud-based password managers, FortiPass stores your segmented password data **locally within your browser**. This means the data never leaves your device and is not stored on our servers. This local approach significantly reduces the risk of mass data breaches and ensures you maintain complete control over your sensitive information.

The segmentation algorithm is a core feature that detects patterns in your password construction that are linked to personal identifiers. For instance, if you use a combination of your pet's name and a significant year, the algorithm will flag this as potentially weak because this information is often publicly available or easy to guess. It then prompts you to randomize these segments, improving the overall entropy and unpredictability of your password.

The FortiPass project includes research and development into integrating Single Sign-On (SSO) principles. While the current version focuses on strong local password management, the roadmap includes an SSO feature that will allow authenticated users to access multiple secured applications using a single set of credentials managed securely by the extension.
